With offseason transactions underway throughout the USL Championship, the move into the former NFL facility provides the Roots perhaps the best training site in the league. Those at the club are hopeful that the Harbor Parkway grounds will help recruit players.

News has been slow out of Oakland through the first month of the offseason since announcing the return of 12 players from the 2021 roster. The blog was told in previous weeks that the move to Alameda was a prime focus for the club, so perhaps this is the first of several big announcements.

The license agreement through the 2022 season allows Roots to use the former performance center, consisting of an 18,000 square foot building with indoor training facilities and a 120,000 square foot sports field. The players and staff will have access to grass fields and weight rooms on par with the top sports organizations in the world.

Per sources, the Roots’ front office staff will still report to its primary office-space in the Fruitvale District.
