Roots’ new interim head coach Noah Delgado’s staff has been a question since the organization parted ways with Juan Guerra. Per a club source, the following members will be alongside Delgado for Wednesday’s game against San Diego Loyal.
- Interim first assistant Mikey Hannon
- Goal keeper coach Peter Davis
- Strength and Conditioning coach Jeronimo Aimar
The three staff members will likely be Delgado’s assistants for the remainder of the 2022 season, but it is not 100 percent certain.
Here is some background on each of them:
Mikey Hannon
Hannon just completed his second season as Project 51O’s head coach. The club recently was first-place in the Southwest Division of USL League Two with an 8-2-2 overall record and was third in the UPSL’s West Division in 2021 with a 7-1-2 record. Both seasons, they lost in the first round of the playoffs. He’s had a direct hand in developing several of Roots’ younger prospects, like Javi Mariona, Lorenzo Hernández, Timothy Syrel, Javier Bedolla Vera, Edwin Rodriguez, Damario McIntosh, and Etsgar Cruz.
Hannon is also an assistant coach for the St. Mary’s men’s soccer team, helping them win a West Coast Conference championship in 2019. From 2018-2021, he worked as an assistant coach at De Anza Force, where Roots’ executive Eric Yamamoto is the Technical Director.
A native of Wales, Hannon began his career at the Swansea City Academy and Arsenal Soccer Schools back in 2007-2009.
Peter Davis
Davis was signed to Oakland Roots as a member of Guerra’s staff. He came to the club after being New Mexico United’s goal keeper coach from 2020-2021 where he helped develop NMU keeper Alexandros Tambakis–who has five clean sheets and ranks 10th in save percentage for the USL so far this season.
Prior to his time in New Mexico, Davis was the goal keeper coach for the University of Central Florida from 2019-2020, the IdeaSport Soccer Academy Goal Keeper Director in Orlando from 2017-2020, and the GK Director of the Soccer Institute at Montverde Academy from 2013-2016.
He also spent time as the University of Florida’s goal keeper coach in 2012-2013 and began his career as a graduate assistant at Mercer University in 2010-2012.
Jeronimo Aimar
Aimar was another recent hire under Guerra at the beginning of 2022. He has a long career as a physical trainer in South American dating back to 2006 before arriving in the United States this year.
Prior to his time in Oakland, Aimar spent 2021 as the Guatemalan National Team’s physical trainer and was also the physical trainer for Club Atlético Talleres’ youth system in Argentina from 2020-2021. From 2018-2020, he was the U15 Argentina National Team’s physical trainer and C.A. Douglas Haig’s Fitness Coach in Argentina’s third division from 2017-2018.
Aimar was C.S.D. Coban Imperial’s physical trainer and assistant coach of Guatemala’s Liga Nacional from 2015-2016 and Club Atlético Douglas Haig’s first-team trainer of Argentina’s third division in 2013. He also had stints as a physical trainer with Club Juventud Unida Universitaria (2012), Club Atletico Lanus (2010-2012), Club Atletico Atlanta (2009), and Club Ateneo Sagrado Corazon (2006-2009).
The Blog will provide information on any more changes to the coaching staff when the news is available.
