Roots fans it’s protest day! There are protests around the Bay Area and the country which you can find at NoKings.Org. I will be at the one at Wilma Chan Park by Lake Merritt BART.
Several Roots-related organizations have put out statements this week:
We talked some about Benny Feilhaber’s first game as Roots’ skipper on RootsPod this week. We liked what we saw and were broadly optimistic about the team.
The Match
Roots will be playing Switchbacks at 6:00 Pacific in Colorado Springs. Switchbacks are struggling in their post-champions season, with a 2-6-4 record and -3 goal differential, just one point above Roots. Their leading scorer is Justin Dhillon, long-time Western Conference foe of the Roots, although his five goals all came in March and April.
Match and Score Prediction
First road test for Feilhaber. I bet we still see some rotation with an eye towards evaluating the players and their chemistry rather than strictly to try to win. Switchbacks are shaky this year, though, and Feilhaber will surely not be completely writing these points off. I like the Roots to go to Colorado Springs and take the points. 1-0 Roots.
