With Luis De Guzman. We discuss some news surrounding the World Cup and some other news surrounding the Coliseum deal. (Some of our speculation is, incredibly, potentially already out of date, but that’s not about to stop us.) We also praise the Roots’ performance against Orange County, and ask what is needed for the record to start reflecting the overall quality of performance.

  1. I think there are multiple things going on with the fall off of attendance at Root’s games. Parking and food costs are part of it. The food fare is expensive at all Bay Area sports venues, but at most parks it’s generally better quality and more interesting. For all of the sports memories around the Raiders, A’s and Warriors, the actual Coliseum has always been a sub par place to watch, and now it’s falling apart rapidly (such fun watching piss drip out of the trough while you’re taking a leak or concrete breaking off of the steps while you get to your seat). Also, a sell out crowd for a game still makes the place look empty, which is a bad look. The Roots need a soccer specific stadium, 20,000-25,000 seat with boxes for the big rollers, to really build attendance.
